Finding The Woman I'm Meant To Be

Standardized Common Sense

There’s a reason they’re called an X
Because you’re left wondering Y
And they generally text
Just to say goodnight

When you’re moving on
They come around
Late at night, when you’re asleep
And there’s no other love found

You hold onto hope
Thinking they’ll change
But like the alphabet
Letters can’t be rearranged

So they sing the ABC’s
The lies they tell
Trying to get to you
Trying to lay their spell

But you know their games
And they don’t give an F
So they sing their lies
All the way to the X

But there’s a reason they’re called an X
Because you’re left wondering Y
And the z is for the zen I’ll feel
When you’re no longer in my life.

Close The Door Behind You

He says it’s more than casual
That you’re the only one
The late night texts and calls
Aren’t numbers that he knows

Maybe this time will be different
Maybe he’s telling the truth
And maybe he cares just as much –
Maybe he loves you too

But maybe he’s the same
And maybe you’re wrong
And this time when he leaves
Tell him to stay gone

He says he was sick and at work
He thought you were just as busy
The lack of texts and calls –
He says he’s really sorry

You’re the first in his new bed
He missed you every day
And you believe him every time
Because you feel the same

But maybe nothing’s changed
And maybe you’re wrong
When he leaves this time
Tell him to stay gone

So you check his phone
When he’s in the other room
And maybe she’s nothing
Maybe he’s choosing you

But maybe you’re the same
And maybe I’m wrong
If I am, this time
Leave and stay gone.

Less Is More

I need a lot less
in this life than the less
I already have.

But I deserve a lot more
than the more that
I’ve received.

I feel so much more
than I ever really
wanted to.

But here I am praying
I could be the one
to save you.

And of all the things
I have, I’ve lost
or have known.

The one thing
that always remains
is everything goes.

Piece By Piece

She hopes you’ll drive by
See the shadows in the light
Taking over your mind
Breaking your heart

She hopes you’ll be there
When he brushes away her hair
You’ll see how he cares
Breaking your heart

She hopes you’ll be around
When the windows are down
And they’re playing around
Breaking your heart

She hopes to cross your mind
As he holds her at night
Touches soft and light
As your heart breaks

She hopes you’ll remember
All your time together
When he asks for her forever
As your heart breaks

She wishes he was true
The way she wished for you
She prays he’s superglue
To heal the heart you broke.

Keys Of Consistency

Adventure is a fleeting moment
A memory you can look back on and smile
A rush of adrenaline
A moment in time

But memories fade
And moments pass
And after every adventure –
You go home
You feel safe
You feel comfortable
And if you’re lucky,
consistency is waiting for you

Consistency is the key to happiness
Consistency is home

So, for me, I’m not looking for adventure
I don’t need to feel the adrenaline rush
I don’t need another passing memory
I don’t need another fleeting moment

My heart needs a home
My soul needs comfort
My life needs consistency.
